In Montessori Mama's classroom they have this great world map made from felt and use a basket of animals for the work. We have been doing similar work but using the wooden puzzle maps, see the full post on a bit of this and a bit of that The felt map is a great idea if you are short of space, it could easily be rolled up or even hung on the wall.
